Generic codes are a feature that can be accessed by businesses that are registered as Freight/Customs Brokers or Traders that have the declarations option enabled.

Generic codes can be used when completing an import or export declaration as a way to classify goods and specify additional information as qualifiers against a declaration line.

To see a list of all generic codes, go to Settings - Classifications - Generic Codes & Qualifiers

The list of al generic codes will display.

Access the details for a generic code by either using the Add option to create a new one or by clicking on a row to edit an existing record.

The details window has the following fields:

Code (required)               This is a short code of your choosing appropriate to the classification.

Description (required)   A description for the generic code.

If 'Override product description in the consignment product details' is checked then the description                                           will be the one used for the declaration line that is sent to TSW.

If not checked then the description is just for internal reference and for searching.

Tariff (optional)              An HS Code or full tariff code may be provided.  This has two purposes:

                                        1. Ensures that if an HS Code or tariff code is entered against the consignment product that it                                                       matches the one entered against the generic code.

                                         2. If no tariff code is entered against the consignment product then the HS code/tariff will be                                                        applied.

Qualifiers

Qualifiers can be entered against a generic code when additional details need to be stated against a declaration line.

Qualifiers may include:

- Exemption codes.  Also called Other Info or Prohibited codes.

- Permit numbers.

- Duty concession codes.

- Intended use codes.

- Overrides for the duty rate.

Adding a Qualifier

Use the Add option to create a new qualifier.

Select a Type from the list and the labels will adjust to indicate the fields that are applicable (if any).

If required, fill in the additional fields and then click OK to add the qualifier to the generic code.

Removing qualifiers

To remove qualifiers, select the rows by clicking or using the checkboxes in the first column.  Then select Remove.

Accessing Generic Codes from Tariffs

Generic codes may also be linked to a tariff via the 'Secondary Code' field.

Adding or editing of generic codes can be done directly from a tariff using the Details option shown below.

Applying a Generic code to a Consignment Product

A generic code can be applied to a consignment product line by entering the code as the 'Secondary code' as shown below.

The search option (magnifying glass) next to the 'Secondary code' field is provided as a lookup for tariffs.

If a tariff is selected that has a secondary code then this code will be applied to the consignment product line along with the tariff code.

The details of the generic code will be pulled in the Consignment.
